It's Time to HAMMER things!
Okay, so while Thor is not as fast as Flash, he still has a
lot of speed and LOTS of power! This is
a clear-cut, Thor wins, no-way-out battle.
Thor always plans and thinks very quickly on the go. Firestorm approaches in a full rage. He tries to distract the god of thunder by
transmuting objects such as tin and iron in to steel weapons, or other
metals. This, of course is no match for
Thor who quite easily deflects them. Of
course, he could simply create a barrier around himself and wait until
Firestorm was tired of throwing things as he did around the UN building in Thor
#181. Of course, Firestorm tries to
transmute Thor’s hammer and quickly finds out that he cannot do it. Firestorm can
only transmute metals that he understands (steel to gold, etc.,) DC
specifically does not allow him to do this.
Even though
it’s really cheating on DC’s part to say that Firestorm can’t transmute organic
forms early on and then change that in later versions, this is no problem! Firestorm gives up on his ping-pong ball
effect of pelting Thor’s force-field, and walks through it using his ability to
become intangible and begins to transmute Thor’s body (which is still
questionable, but for argument’s sake, I’ll allow it)… and of course, this is not
a problem! The god of thunder can handle
this easily. Thor himself has the
ability to transmute things (Journey Into Mystery #115 Thor specifically
says “I have the power to transmute the elements themselves). Thor renders his transmutation irrelevant and
Firestorm is forced to back off due to a blast of energy from Mjolnir which had
the power to send Galactus reeling and rip the fabric of the universe (Thor
#425).
Firestorm, of course, will try to hurl waves of energy at Thor, but that, too, is purposeless. Thor holds the mighty Mjolnir up in front of him and absorbs all of the energy (whether up close or from far away, Thor's hammer has absorbed numerous energies such as nuclear, radioactive, cosmic, etc., see Avengers #171, Silver Surfer #4, Avengers # 304, and Journey Into Mystery #109). By this time, Thor is ready for the attack. He can hurl his hammer at light speed and hits an unprepared Firestorm, knocking him down, if not out completely, and giving Thor a chance to create a vortex into which he sends Firestorm, taking him into another dimension (as he did with an entire population, along with various other characters and beings: see Avengers #9, #16, #180, #309, Thor #192, and Thor Annual #16) and thereby defeating him. Thus a final and definite win for The Mighty Thor!
